How to Get to Gothenburg

Gothenburg is located on Sweden’s western coast, and is easily accessible via ferry or airplane.

The main airport is Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport. From there you can take the Flygbussarna Bus Service directly to the city center. Buses depart every 20 minutes and the ride takes under 30 minutes. You can book tickets for the bus or get more information here.

The main train station is Gothenburg Central Station, and is located right in the city center.

What to Do in Gothenburg

Gothenburg is a major port and is Sweden’s second largest city!

Gothenburg has four main streets known as Långgatorna, that run parallel to each other and are all fascinating to explore.

Magasinsgatan is known as Gothenburg’s urban design district, and is the best place for food & fashion! Next to it, take a walk down Vallgatan and explore it as well.

The streets of Östra and Södra Larmgatan run from east to west and are perfect if you’re looking for high street shopping or a great meal.

Gustaf Adolfs Torg is the main square in Gothenburg and is the center of all the action.

One of the very best things to do in Gothenburg is take a boat trip out to visit the islands that make up the Archipelago of Gothenburg. Take an Archipelago Cruise of the Swedish Islands! Reserve your spot here.

There are islands in both the northern and the southern archipelago. The southern islands are all car-free and you must take a ferry. The northern islands can be accessed by cars, buses, or by ferry.

Ferries to the southern archipelago depart from Stenpiren Travel Center in the city all year round. The entire route Stenpiren–Styrsö–Donsö–Vrångö takes about 1 hour and 35 minutes. The ferry departs twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

The northern islands are accessible by car, bus and bike on highway 155 towards Hisingen/Öckerö and by ferry from Stenpiren Travel Center in the city center to Hönö Klåva during summer and on special occasions.
