How to Get to Vienna

Vienna is Austria’s capital city and is easily accessible via train or airplane. 

Vienna’s main airport is Vienna International Airport/Flughafen Wien. The City Airport Train (CAT) runs directly between Vienna International Airport and the City Center. It is non-stop and takes 16 minutes. You can get more information and tickets here.

The main train station is Vienna Central Station/Wein HBF. From there it is a quick 5 minute metro ride into the city center.

What to Do in Vienna

Vienna is the capital of Austria and is rich in history, with lots to do & see!

Vienna has a large city center that is perfect for exploring on foot. Take a walking tour around Vienna and see the best of the city! Book this highly recommended experience here.

The Innere Stadt is the main city center and old town of Vienna. In its center you will find beautiful St. Stephan’s Cathedral and the main square Stephansplatz. Make sure to pop your head in for a look at the inside of the Cathedral – it is gorgeous!

Surrounding Stephan’s Cathedral and Stephansplatz are cafes, restaurants and streets lined with pedestrian walkways and stores. Kärntner Strasse is the main pedestrian shopping street and is perfect for a wander through town.

Right outside Hofburg Palace, you can find horse-drawn carriages that will take you for a romantic ride around the city!

Visit Belvedere Palace, another Royal Palace in Vienna. It was used as the venue for the marriage of Marie Antoinette and the future King of France, Louis XVI in 1770. A masked ball was thrown there in their honor, with a guest list of 16,000 people. Today it is a museum that you can visit and has the most beautiful grounds that you can wander. Schönbrunn Palace is probably the #1 attraction in Vienna. It is located right outside the city but is easily accessible by subway, and was the main summer residence of the Habsburg Kings & Queens. The Palace itself is massive and the palace grounds and gardens are even more extensive! This is definitely something not to be missed! Skip the long lines and get your tickets here!

A must-do in Vienna is a night of music! Vienna is known for its music history, and offers nightly classical concerts that are phenomenal!

I highly recommend the Mozart concert where the musicians dress up in full 1700s attire, including white powdered wigs! Book tickets to the Mozart concert here.

Or you can enjoy a classical concert in the beautiful St. Peter’s church! Book those  tickets here.

The cold season lasts from November to March, with an average daily temperature below 45°F. The coldest month of the year in Vienna is January, with an average low of 27°F and high of 37°F.
